Around 50 vehicles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Officers say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Officers then discovered many other smeared cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state preliminary tests indicate the liquid was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; authorities are presently not aware of any harm in relation with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the community for details.
An important political figure said the attack rendered him stunned and needed to be solved promptly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right attack in 2020," he stated on a platform, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a assailant targeting people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
