Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Soldiers Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a wide array of personalities, and a exciting storyline featuring divine entities, demons, and dark forces growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Revealing details for the third episode of this adventure lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The third episode finished on a dramatic pause and presented the first table of characters who will split off from the main group to undertake their separate journey, distinct from the remaining groups.

This warrior group consists of Teor (played by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

Hence, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for participants who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are rare.

At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look out of place, but the developments of the third episode make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the group understands precisely where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the narrative’s action—used the foes for his personal gain, breaking into the hidden lair, attacking the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The antagonist then settled his debts and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, wants revenge.
  • Kattigan has experience in the region and warns that it is a hostile location.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having defied his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their position as key figures in House Halovar could assist the team reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, Teor swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are sought by the authorities that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This means them little choice but to head to the northern region in pursuit of the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Questers and Strategists tables.

Audiences can expect learning which adventurers will be where in the story’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on next week.
