World Series Game 7 Draws 51M Viewers Across the US, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The exciting extra-inning clash where the Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 drew a total 51M spectators in the US, Canada, and Japan territories. MLB announced this represents the most-watched World Series Game 7 after the 1991 edition showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic game averaged 27.33M audience members on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and their digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It additionally is the top-rated World Series matchup after the 2017 edition final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This represents a 16% improvement compared to the last Game 7 between the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed fourth, Game 4 was seventh, Game 5 came in eighth, and the third game finished in thirteenth position.

Global Audience Figures

In Canada, the game drew 11.6 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English broadcast in Canada since the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest began at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it averaged 12 million viewers. This came after the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic MVP Yamamoto gave up a single run in six innings – averaged over 13 million spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic matchup on a single network in the country.

Series Totals and Patterns

The entire seven-game World Series recorded 15.71M viewers on the Fox network, a two percent rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the first time after 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has recorded audience growth for two consecutive years.

Including the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the complete US viewership reached over 16 million. The overall World Series average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels recorded 8.09M viewers, an 8% rise compared to last year and Fox’s strongest postseason performance after the 2017 season.

MLB stated that the World Series was televised in over 200 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 various languages.
